Pongsak Padungkarn to Be Named NS BlueScope President for Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei, Effective September 1, 2013
KUALA LUMPUR, 28 August 2013 – NS BlueScope (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (formerly known as BlueScope Steel (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.) is set to announce the appointment of Pongsak Padungkarn as President for Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei, effective 1 September. Pongsak will report directly to Sanjay Dayal, Chief Executive, NS BlueScope.
He will replace Somkiat Pintatham, who has been appointed President of NS BlueScope Thailand. Somkiat is returning home after four years in Malaysia where he and his team delivered excellent business performance. Somkiat also served on the council of the Malaysian Steel and Iron Federation (MISIF) as Vice President.
Pongsak is currently Vice President of Manufacturing at NS BlueScope Thailand, where he has successfully led the Maptaphut manufacturing site since late 2009, implementing manufacturing and customer service improvements that have contributed significantly to the revival of the Thailand business.
Sanjay said Pongsak brings more than 20 years of experience in the industry to his new role. “Pongsak has led the manufacturing business in Thailand with a high rate of success, commissioning of the second metallic coated line in Thailand, and ensuring the carry through of the investment in capacity in Malaysia. He will continue to lead operations as Malaysia has been identified as one of the key investment markets and will undoubtedly benefit from leading-edge technology transfer and future growth opportunities and bring technical expertise to start-up of new facilities. He is vastly experienced and is perfectly suited to take BlueScope Malaysia’s performance to greater heights. I want to also thank Somkiat for his years of leadership and look forward to working with him in Thailand,” he said.
Pongsak said he is relishing the opportunity in the Malaysian market, despite the current environmental challenges. He said, “At BlueScope, we want to consistently deliver the highest standards of product and quality to our customers regardless of the market environment. We have a strong team in Malaysia and I look forward to working with them and our partners together to improve our business.”
Earlier in June, NS BlueScope Malaysia was formed having recently formalised the joint venture between BlueScope Steel Malaysia and Nippon Steel Sumitomo Metal Corp.
NS BlueScope comprises 3,000 employees across 29 manufacturing plants across ASEAN and North America. This will include NS BlueScope Malaysia’s manufacturing plants for roll-forming and coated steel building products that are located in Kapar, Shah Alam, Sabah, Sarawak, Singapore and Brunei.
