Under the theme “Shaping Resilient Future: Timeless Design with Coated Steel,” this year's winning projects demonstrate how coated steel can move beyond its conventional role to become an integral part of architectural design.
NS BlueScope Malaysia has named the winners of the Steel Architectural Awards Malaysia 2026, recognising projects and architectural ideas that demonstrate the possibilities of coated steel across Malaysia’s evolving built environment.
A Theme Built to Last
Anchored by the theme “Shaping Resilient Future: Timeless Design with Coated Steel”, the Steel Architectural Awards 2026 celebrates architecture that responds to today while remaining relevant for years to come. The winning projects demonstrate how coated steel can contribute to durability, functionality and design expression across different architectural applications. From industrial spaces to civic and community buildings, the entries reflect the diverse possibilities of steel in Malaysia’s built environment.
A Continuing Journey of Steel Architectural Excellence
The awards launched in 2024 as the BlueScope Steel Architectural Award (BSAA), Malaysia's first platform dedicated to architectural excellence in coated steel. It gave the industry a reason to look at the material differently, and the entries that year set a benchmark the profession has continued to build on.
Two years on, the programme returns as the Steel Architectural Awards, carrying forward its founding purpose while continuing to evolve. This edition marks the first collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), extending the platform's reach to academia and the next generation of architectural talent.
6 Categories, 1 New Generation
Steel Architectural Awards 2026 expanded to six categories with the introduction of Student Excellence. Alongside Industrial, Commercial, Residential, Institutional Public & Others, and Lasting Beauty of COLORBOND® Steel, the new Student Excellence category ensures the awards recognise not only where Malaysian architecture stands today, but also the next generation who will shape its future.
Entries were reviewed by a four-member jury panel:
Assoc. Prof. Ar. Dr. Lim Yaik Wah, Associate Professor, Department of Architecture, Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
Ar. Melvyn Joachim Kanny, Principal of MJ Kanny Architect
Ar. Razin Mahmood, Principal of Razin Architects
