NS BlueScope Malaysia Marks the Return of Steel Symposium II 2025 to Celebrate Architectural Expression Through Steel

BlueScope Malaysia proudly marked the resounding return of “Steel Connect Symposium II 2025” following its successful debut in 2023. The Steel Connect Series, which started as webinars in 2020, celebrates 5 meaningful years of connection over 30 building industry-catered past webinars.
Themed “Designing for Legacy: Steel Innovation in Modern Landmarks”, the event aims to set an inspiring tone for future-forward conversations, delving into how steel continues to shape landmark architecture across Malaysia and beyond. With the focus on knowledge sharing, the symposium is endorsed with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) accreditation from professional bodies; Board of Architects Malaysia (PAM), Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), and Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM).
The Steel Connect Symposium is an initiative spanning two cities — beginning in Kuala Lumpur on 24 May 2025, and continuing in Kuching on 5 July 2025. The symposium serves as a platform for industry leaders in the building and construction sector to connect, exchange ideas, and collaborate to drive innovation and progress — all united by a shared commitment to design excellence.
A show-stealing highlight was the exclusive presentation by the recipients of the BlueScope Architectural Steel Awards Malaysia (BSAA MY) 2024 — Ar. Melvyn J Kanny, Principal of MJ Kanny Architect, and Ar. Razin Mahmood, Principal and Founder of Razin Architects — where the renowned architects took the stage to unveil the stories behind their acclaimed works:
-
VanaVasa Resort – Gold Award, Commercial Category
An exemplary use of steel in harmony with nature, where the structure blends into the forested surroundings while delivering durability, elegance, and minimal environmental impact.
-
Masjid Daing Abdul Rahman – Gold Award, Institutional & Others Category

-
Dewan Konvensyen Bukit Raja – Bronze Award, Institutional & Others Category

Through compelling narratives, visual walkthroughs, and rare behind-the-scenes insights, the speakers revealed the driving inspirations, design strategies, and innovative use of steel in realising their architectural visions, followed by an interactive Q&A session.
Further elevating the occasion was the launch of NS BlueScope Malaysia’s latest design publication:
“BlueScope Architectural Steel Awards Malaysia (BSAA MY) 2024 Award Issue”
This curated coffee table volume documents a selection of exemplary steel projects across the region, presented through architectural drawings, essays, and photography. Compact yet content-rich, the publication is intended to serve as both a source of inspiration and a scholarly reference for the design and construction community.
With its ongoing mission to inspire bold design thinking, nurture cross-disciplinary collaboration, and promote progressive use of steel, the Steel Connect Symposium stands as a beacon for the region’s design and construction fraternity.
NS BlueScope Malaysia remains committed to the continuous knowledge-sharing and idea exchange of the industry and has expressed its intention to host more webinars and symposiums in the future that drive forward the boundaries of material exploration and architectural practice.
